Barboursville
is a charming village located in Cabell County in southwest West Virginia. It has an approximate population of 3,183 and is near Huntington, which is the second largest city in the state. Barboursville is home to the largest shopping complex in West Virginia. Yet, despite the growth and modern mall, the village of Barboursville has remained a quiet, residential town of historic homes and figures. It's this very blend of contemporary and historical sights that make the town popular with visitors. Craft shops, boutiques and quaint restaurants line the charming streets of historic buildings There is a trail through Barboursville that showcases many of its historic buildings. One such structure is an old toll house dating to the pre-Civil War era. Other landmarks include the Veterans Home, Barboursville Elementary and Middle Schools, and Barboursville Park, which serves as a popular recreation area for residents of the area. The town of Barboursville hosts a Fall Fest each year, and on the 4th of July, fireworks are fired from the highest hill in city park. Barboursville is located near U.S. Route 60, which follows the route of the historic Midland Trail. Nearby East Lynn Lake provides recreational activities such as fishing, boating, hiking and camping.

Southwestern West Virginia , along the Ohio River, has a distinct, four-season climate. Due to the location in one of the westernmost and lowest altitude areas of the state, it has a warmer and milder humid subtropical climate, unlike the hilly uplands of West Virginia in the Allegheny and Appalachian Mountains. This southwestern region is warmed by westerly winds from the Midwest and made humid by the Ohio River, and avoids the bitter cold and high winds of the interior regions of the state. Summers are hot in southwestern West Virginia and winters cold and snowy. Snowfall can occur anytime from late November to mid-April, with the most amounts falling during January and February. Spring tends to be cool and wet, and autumn is mild and dry and pleasant temperatures for viewing colorful fall foliage.
