East-Lynn-Lake
is a 1,005-acre reservoir in Wayne County, West Virginia, in the southwest portion of the state. Recreational activities at the lake include boating, fishing, swimming, camping, hiking, wildlife viewing and picnicking. Beautiful, wooded hills surround the lake, which are beautiful in any season, but especially in autumn when the trees turn crimson, gold and orange. East Lynn Lake was originally authorized by Congress in 1938 following a devastating flood in 1937. However, construction didn't occur until 1969-1970. Construction of the lake resulted in the destruction of the town of Stiltner at the mouth of Brush Creek. It also required the relocation of a large part of West Virginia Route 37. There is a marina at the lake that offers dock space, boat equipment and repairs, rentals, snack bar, related goods and services and a marine dump station. The village of East Lynn is nearby, but doesn't offer any businesses for tourists. For shopping, restaurants and other services, the town of Wayne is approximately eight miles away. This is a somewhat secluded area, rural in nature and filled with natural beauty and wildlife. To reach East Lynn Lake from Huntington, take Route 152 South to Wayne, then Route 37 to the East Lynn Lake office and visitor center.

East Lynn Lake Weather & Climate

Southwestern West Virginia , along the Ohio River, has a distinct, four-season climate. Due to the location in one of the westernmost and lowest altitude areas of the state, it has a warmer and milder humid subtropical climate, unlike the hilly uplands of West Virginia in the Allegheny and Appalachian Mountains. This southwestern region is warmed by westerly winds from the Midwest and made humid by the Ohio River, and avoids the bitter cold and high winds of the interior regions of the state. Summers are hot in southwestern West Virginia and winters cold and snowy. Snowfall can occur anytime from late November to mid-April, with the most amounts falling during January and February. Spring tends to be cool and wet, and autumn is mild and dry and pleasant temperatures for viewing colorful fall foliage.
