Glade-Springs
is a gated, master-planned resort community located southeast of the town of Beckley, West Virginia. It is located at the town of Daniels. Glade Springs and Daniels are among the most popular residential areas in Raleigh County. The regions woodlands and relatively cool summer temperatures attract many visitors and home buyers alike. Nearby attractions include Little Beaver State Park and southern parts of the New River Gorge National River. Glade was first established a private retreat for the Caperton family, mining industrialists of southern West Virginia, and their friends. By 1970, Glade Springs had become one of the Beckley areas most affluent neighborhoods. Development slowed in the 1980s, but beginning in the late 1990s, the completion of Interstates 64 and 77 granted new interstate access to the Glade Springs region. Glade Springs includes a hotel, conference center, two championship golf courses, a spa, heated pool, tennis courts, two fine restaurants, an equestrian program, and convention facilities. The resorts indoor leisure center includes an arcade, an indoor pool, a fitness center, tennis courts, a cinema room, and a bowling alley. Largely wooded, Glade Springs is filled with hiking, biking, and horseback trails, some of which tie into the nationally famous recreation trails of the Glade Creek Canyon, part of the New River Gorge National River.

South Central West Virginia is dominated by a humid continental climate, due to its geographical location in the higher elevations. Summers are very warm and humid and winters are cold and snowy. The humid continental climate is marked by variable weather patterns and a large seasonal temperature variance. Summers are often warm and humid with frequent thunderstorms and winters can be very cold with frequent snowfall and persistent snow cover. The seasonal temperature variance is typically 25-35C (45-63F) and increases as one moves further inland. Places with at least four months of average daily temperatures above 10 C (50 F) and at least one month below 0 C (32 F) or -3 C (26.6 F) depending on source, and which do not meet the criteria for an arid or semiarid climate, are classified as humid continental.
