Seneca-Rocks
is a small community located in Pendleton County in northeast West Virginia. The community was formerly known as Mouth of Seneca and it lies along WV Route 28/55 near the confluence of Seneca Creek and the North Fork South Branch Potomac River. The town is also near Seneca Rocks, the crag from which it takes its' name. Both lie within the Spruce Knob-Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area of the Monongahela National Forest. A viewing platform can be reached from the Seneca Rocks Discovery Center in the National Forest, via a 1.3-mile hiking trail. This spectacularly scenic area offers spelunking, rock climbing, white water rafting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and camping. It's a very natural area with no fast food restaurants, shopping malls or high rise buildings. Just mountains, forests, peaceful, scenic highways, home-style diners, even a country general store or two. The Seneca Rocks "Front Porch" restaurant offers views of rock climbers making their way up the craggy face of the rocks as you sit back, relax and dine. The route to Seneca Rocks is half of the fun, on twisting mountain highways and steep curves. So, take your time and be forewarned that amenities such as gas stations are few and far between on these routes. So fill your tank before you begin and bring along plenty of water and snacks.

The northeastern panhandle region of West Virginia has a humid continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters. The climate of the eastern panhandle is influenced by its proximity to the Atlantic slope and is similar to that of nearby coastal areas. The yearly average temperature is 53F. Prevailing winds are from the south and west, and seldom reach hurricane or tornado force. Average annual precipitation is 44 inches and is slightly heavier on the western slopes of the Alleghenies. Accumulations of snow may vary from about 20 inches in the western sections to more than 50 inches in the higher mountains. Spring weather is unpredictable and the driest period tends to be during the autumn months of September and October.
