Sam-Black-Church
is a small unincorporated community located in Greenbrier County in southeast West Virginia. It's located at the intersection of Interstate 64 and U.S. Highway 60 on the Midland Trail, which is a National Scenic Byway. The community is named for the Sam Black Church, a Registered Historic Place, located nearby. The historic, Carpenter Gothic-style church was built in 1902 and named in honor of Reverand Samuel Black, a circuit-riding Southern Methodist preacher. Sam Black Church is nestled in the beautiful Alleghany Mountains, which offer unlimited outdoor recreational opportunities and historic spots. The community is near the towns of Lewisburg and White Sulphur Springs, home of the world renowned Greenbrier Resort and Spa. The eastern and western portions of Greenbrier County are linked by Interstate 64. Two of the main highways in the county are historical transportation routes that have been used for hundreds of years - US Route 219 (Seneca Trail) and US Route 60 (Midland Trail,) which intersect in downtown Lewisburg. Outdoor activities in the area include white water rafting, hiking, rock climbing, canoeing, mountain biking, skiing and snowboarding.

Southern West Virginia , near the Virginia border, has a mild, four-season climate. Within this region, the city of Bluefield prides itself on its hospitable climate. Since 1938 the Bluefield Chamber of Commerce has given free lemonade when the temperature has surpassed 90F. The city's motto is "nature's air conditioned city, where the summer spends the winter." Indeed, due to the high elevation, this region has a somewhat cooler and more moist climate than surrounding areas at lower altitudes. Summers are mild and humid with high temperatures ranging from the 60s to low 70s F. Summer low temperatures average 50-55 F, although temperatures below freezing have been recorded in every month of the year. Winters are typically cold and snowy. Nearly all snow falls from October through April. Severe storms, such as tornadoes, are rare in this region.
